Affirmative Action

Affirmative action refers to policies and programs aimed at increasing the representation of historically disadvantaged groups in areas such as employment, education, and business. These measures are designed to address past and present discrimination by providing opportunities to people from underrepresented groups. The specific implementation and legal implications of affirmative action vary by country.

Affirmative action is not a form of preferential treatment for unqualified individuals. It is not designed to unduly disadvantage any particular group, nor is it intended to guarantee outcomes or quota-based representations. Instead, it aims to level the playing field and address systemic barriers that have historically hindered the opportunities of underrepresented groups.

Affirmative action can provide opportunities for qualified black individuals in various scenarios. For instance, in the education sector, a black student with strong academic potential and qualifications may benefit from affirmative action when applying to universities or colleges to counteract historical barriers to equal educational opportunities. Additionally, in the workplace, a qualified black candidate may benefit from affirmative action when competing for employment opportunities in fields where they have been traditionally underrepresented. These measures aim to address systemic barriers and promote diversity and inclusivity.

In other words, I apply for a management position, I have achieved an MBA and 1 of 2 scenarios happens:

(1) My resume is immediately thrown in the circular receptacle because my name is Shenaqia Lexus Johnson:

(2) My resume is not rejected, I got the interview and all went well; Ms. Lillith Genevier got an interview she has achieved a bachelor’s degree in political science. Ms. Genevier gets the job and she’s not qualified.

Most folk think Affirmative Action is a way for Black and Brown folk to get jobs they are NOT qualified for.
